I stand corrected. Thank you. I tend to blot bad times that I have gone through from my mind... my recall failed me!

Granted it comes from transplants for the most part, but I have now lived in 5 states and hands down FL is the dumbest and the rudest when it comes to everyday behavior.
And again you have a lot of part time residents who only live there 4 months out of the year, so they don't care about having an infrastructure, many of them aren't even Americans.
I asked several people who voted for him you do know that he was involved in the largest Medicare fraud in US history. Their answer was well he wasn't convicted. Well neither was Casey Anthony but we all know she killed that child.
The only thing the state has going for it is nice winters.

Florida is one of many states occupying the land of "me first".
I would agree with much of your post, but def not the last sentence. Also don't know that Florida is the dumbest and rudest. But then, it is my state and I love it.
My kids and I spent three hours going door to door campaigning today. Apathy in voting isn't just a Florida problem. It is a national problem. It is a national shame, IMO.
And Rick Scott is a one-term governor. If I am wrong, I will have to eat my words that Florida isn't the most dumb state! LOL

Claiming benefits
I moved from another state and I am unemployed. Can I file in Florida? I was not collecting benefits in the other state.

No. You file for benefits in the state in which you had your most recent job loss.
What state did you move from?
Why did you lose your job in that state?
How much have you worked in the past 18 months and where?
FL won't pay you at all unless you've earned wages in that state and been terminated from a job in that state. Further, FL has a low benefit - maximum is $275/wk. Number of weeks paid is predicated on unemployment rate. Right now, FL's UE rate allows it to pay no more than 19 weeks' state benefits.

I would prefer being required to report in weekly than to what I had to endure in both Utah before I moved and also what I had to endure here in California. Both Utah and California have work search requirements; when one's initial benefits are approved, they state how many full-time (part-time does not count in either state) jobs you must apply for weekly. Instead of making sure you apply weekly, however, both states do random audits to make sure you are looking. I was audited once in UT after 5 months on UI and audited in CA after a month on UI. In both cases payments were "suspended pending review." I was required to list ten jobs and make a statement for why I was still unemployed in both cases. There are also various levels of the audit in both states; I've heard of people in both UT and CA required to suddenly furnish proof that they have applied for x amount of jobs in x amount of time, and the proof has to be submitted. If you fail, they make you pay back x month's worth of benefits.
During my time on UI, I would have much preferred to just log in and post five of the jobs I had applied to rather than have the worry that I might be audited and do I have enough proof via job postings and emails and contacts to meet the state's requirements?

How hard is it to save an email that clearly states you were "not qualified" or that the company "went with another candidate"? That shows that you DID apply and that you DID get rejected. It's an email, it comes to you automatically. All you have to do is NOT delete it.
If you get audited, you print it off and send it. How is that difficult?
I applaud the states that are getting tougher on unemployment claims.

CA requires 3 job searches per week. You should have record of those because you are actually doing them...either the automated letter sent by the online site, or even jot down where you applied. You need to do this 3 times per week. Use a notebook and you will use about one page per every 2 months. And, if they ask, you submit this. Done.
CA is asking you to log your job search. When you certify for benefits, you say that you in fact look for work...so, unless you are not telling the truth on the claim form, there really should not be issues.

You obviously misread my post. I stated that I would have preferred Florida's way of requiring you report your job search weekly to Utah and California's way of "we may ask we might not ask you" which actually IMHO screws over more people than Florida's method does. I've met people both in CA and UT who were asked to provide over a year's worth of job search records on a whim - and it had to be printed out and the whole mess sent in, plus an interview and a questionnaire to boot - and it all had to be done in person at a job search center or, in CA's case, over a phone interview. Meanwhile the payments stop while you are being audited.
I kept 200+ pages worth of job search results and applications in a folder until six months after I quit EDD because from what I've heard they can audit you after you've come off the program as well.
Would have really preferred to log in with 5 job leads every week to being randomly audited.

You have obviously never been audited.

In fact, I was audited in CA. I brought in my log. I brought in a copy of my resume. I wrote down the links to the places I was using to apply. I also brought in emails that represented at least 6 applied jobs per week (the requirement was 3_. My audit was short and sweet and the auditor told me I was obviously taking it seriously. He took a look at my resume, told me the resume looked good, wished me luck, and sent me on my way after telling me the benefits payment was released without issue.

I look for work every week. I log in and prove it to boot. I dont screw around. I go to employ florida and apply right there so there is an iron clad proof that I applied and a trail if there is a response.
I have applied for over 800 jobs , which is about an average of 30 a week. Six times the requirement. And after all that, I got 5 emails back, and ZERO interviews.
I got a work from home internet commission offer that led to absolutely NOTHING. Not a red cent.
I get the Florida max, and its dry crap to live on. Yet my employer whined and moaned and fought it tooth and nail every step of the way. A trillion dollar bank.
This stupid Gov we got here is a total jerk off and hes got to go. He has done absolutely nothing to help in Florida. The only reason there is any movement at all in unemployment is because people GIVE UP looking for work.
He seems HELL BENT on squeezing every single person who is poor into getting absolutely nothing at all.
