Hi,
I called my unemployment office a couple of weeks back and was told that I had just entered into Tier 2. I claimed on 02/13 and still had over $2,000 as a balance. On monday I went to claim my weekly benefits and got this message :
The benefit year on your unemployment claim dated 02-20-2011 has expired.
No unemployment benefits are available to you at this time.
I was just approved for Tier 2 so I'm very confused as to what to do next. I've been on hold for a little over an hour and don't want to just hang up and lose my spot.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

That's a shame.
Sooner or later, the government DOES run out of money.

Your benefit year has expired. You need to call or visit your local office. You will get re-certified and then benefits will continue. No big deal.

Stay on the phone You need to call NJ to recertify:

8. I've been collecting for a year and am on Tier 2. My claim expires next week. What happens now?
Some states automatically perform the recertification process as long as you continue to file weekly or biweekly claims. In most states, you will need to telephone your state to RECERTIFY your claim. Your state will do a monetary reevaluation for a new claim. If you have not had eligible earnings during your past benefit year, your "application for a new claim" will be denied, your old claim reopened and you continue to receive benefits on that claim.
You may receive confusing correspondence at this time, especially in Illinois. Be sure to telephone your state if this happens - and keep claiming if the system allows.

Classic, Ive noticed you posting this same message up on several threads. I do not think you are giving good advice here.
The local NJ LWD Offices are staffed at skeleton crew levels and often times have difficulty answering even simple questions.
The State of NJ has gone to great lengths to bring their phone and on-line systems up to speed and they do NOT recommend that you visit the office with questions like these.
I have had no problems at all in three years using the phone system and have ALWAYS received correct information from the workers on the phones.
Can you please explain why you are telling people to visit the office instead of following the State's instructions?

You definitely do not have to visit the office. And I don't think they want you to. I got the same message ATLBound2012 spoke about. I called and was on hold for over an hour, but when the rep picked up, the issue was quickly resolved.
