Hello. I received my last 31 weeks of California unemployment in 2011. A couple of months later, in October, I got a new job. They just laid me off (no misconduct on my part). Can I file again for California unemployment? Is there some kind of limit on how often you can apply for unemployment? Or does there have to be a certain amount of time before you can apply for unemployment again? Thank you.

No limit on how often you can apply, no timeframe. Apply now. CA just instituted a new alternative base period for qualifying, so your most recent earnings will be used if your other base-year earnings do not create eligibility. You may have to provide paystubs.

Yep.. no problems, same happened to me in Georgia. I was laid off in November 2009, went to work in September 2010, laid off again in January 2011. I reverted back to my original 2009 claim till I landed my current job in May 2011 and moved west.
Good news for me is April 1st just put me over the requirements of time worked in a benefit year (in a state with nearly $600 per week unemployment vs $330 a week in Georgia) so if something happens again I can start a fresh claim.

If your benefit year has ended - which it sounds like it has - the answer is YES.

I received unemployment from 6/7/15 until 12/5/15. I began work again in March, 2016. My employer is going out of business. Can I receive unemployment again? Thank you.

Yes. Your earlier benefit year expired in June 2016, therefore you are eligible for a new claim. You've been working seven months. However. if you apply before January and have earned at least $1,300 Mar-June, CA will only use earnings through 6/30/2016 to qualify you, which means a claim of 12-13 weeks' benefits at most. The only way to get a longer claim would be to wait until January to apply, at which time CA will use earnings March-September which should provide 26 weeks' benefits.

Wow! Thank you. A month could make a huge difference if you didn't know! I appreciate your reply.
