Currently I'm a FT Student in an approved training program, I exhausted my Tier IV benefits on 3/25/12, and I received this message at the bottom of my certification page online "Our records indicate that you may be eligible for an extended benefit claim. A claim will be filed for you. You will be notified by mail of your eligibility and if you are eligible, the date on which you should next claim benefits."

So usually I receive a letter in the mail from NJ Unemployment telling me of my current benefit amount when switching tiers. I have not received any letter, but I signed online to do a claim inquiry and the benefit amount is different from my Tier IV. Since I exhausted my Tier IV I'm assuming the next qualifier is EB.

So I filed online today as it has been two weeks and received this message while trying to certify: "Your certification cannot be processed. Please refer to "Telephone Number to Claim Weekly Benefits", provided at http://lwd.state.nj.us/labor/ui/claim/clmwktele.html .
So as I have never collected EB I'm unsure if this means there is an error, a problem, or is EB only collected by calling unemployment? I always use the web app for claiming benefits.

Has anyone else gone through this as well?

Since it has been two weeks and you have not received anything from NJ, you need to call NJ tomorrow to straighten this out. Normally, NJ sends EB paperwork within a week of your exhausting Tier IV.

I did the claim inquiry because I waited two weeks and didn't receive anything in the mail from unemployment regarding EB. But the claim inquiry I did last week, and i tried certifying today. But will be going to the UI office tomorrow.

So I went to the unemployment office on April 9 and was told my claim was under "reversion “from 2008 to my new claim from 2010, great news for me as I’m back to my old higher weekly rate. I was told to check my account in the next couple of days and the funds would be there…NOT... I spoke with an agent on the phone who then told me she saw the claims agent email to Trenton about my reversion and only Trenton can revert it and to continually check my account for the funds ....I originally certified on April 8, 2012 well Today is April 17, 2012 and I still haven’t received any money, I’m now in my second claim week and will be certifying again this weekend. It has been ten days and still no resolve.

I don't understand why NJ has Unemployment offices throughout the state and claims agents over the phone if only Trenton can handle problems? It makes absolutely no sense to me the need wait in line for an hour speak to a receptionist, get a ticket, wait another two hours to hear the issue, wait patiently for money that hasn’t been deposited yet. To only call an agent again and hear the "All agents are currently busy assisting other callers, if you’d like we can call you back in 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours and 10 minutes, you won't lose your place in line by doing so"....then 3 hours later "Oh Trenton is backed up it takes about two weeks for them to correct any issues"....

Bishop, they have it set up that way to discourage ppl from filing. A surprising number just walk away out of impatience or discouragement.

Keria about all you can do is call them tomorrow morning. There will be a long wait on hold, but don't give up.

that's normal after 1 full year. you do need to speak with them to take care of your problem so call first thing in the morning when they open. you won't wait as long if you call them right when they open.
