Can I apply for unemployment benefits to make up the difference in pay?
Yes, but you probably won't get anything. 32 hours just isn't low enough to get a partial benefit, but you're more than welcome to apply and see what happens.
Hi, I was hired for full time position with guaranteed 37.5 hours per week, 10 days vacation paid, 5 sick days, all federal holidays paid, and extra 250$ toward my health insurance. My boss want to get out that agreement, so he informed me everyone will be part time with no benefits. He new from the beginning I can work till 5.30 due to pick up my kid from daycare. I work for him 11 months, he gave me that notice 4 weeks ago, I will have 25.5 h a week with no benefits , because he wants to keep the office open 3 days only from 9-7. Still can't stay to 7 due to daycare.... Is there anything that can be done ? I'll probably loose my insurance through market place, which cost me 510$ a month(he paid 250$ each month till now)., because i would not be able to afford it...

This is a substantial change to the terms and conditions of employment.

What's this? You can NEVER use your kids as an excuse with UI or why you can't work. You need to make your point in other ways because if you say this, you'll be told, "then hire a new daycare provider."

What have you been doing during that time? You were supposed to be screaming, and I mean screaming at him. Things like, "you promised me full-time work." "you're breaking a deal." You HAVE to keep me full-time with benefits," "You made a contract." "that's the way things have been for 11 months." If you do this correctly, he'll tell you to get your crazy self out of his place of business, and then your UI will be assured. It's called "adjusting your grievance." It's the first step in a good cause quit, and when it causes you to get fired, it makes your life so much easier.

To make him keep things the same, no, but you can try to get UI as the consolation prize, and probably get yourself on Medicaid because of your new lower income, and then you won't care so much.
Hello, I was working 30 hours a week but my employer cut my hours to 22 hours a week due to my job description being taken over by a soft ware company he hired. My pay is the same and I get to keep my vacation. I live in Massachusetts and this pay cut puts me back 700.00 a month. Is it even worth my filing for partial unemployment? Employer told me it was either that or their was nothing else because that was what was in the new budget. I have been there 4 years. Thanks, S.C.
Partial UI doesn't usually pay anything unless your pay is cut 50% or more. You can check the new lower pay vs what you'd get using MA's partial UI formula. Your hours were only cut 26.67%. So I'd say you won't get any partial UI. If you want UI, you'll have to go for a good cause quit or complain your way into a firing. You'll probably get less money on UI than by working, but getting paid to do nothing is ok with a lot of people.
In the 2009 MA UI handbook, MA does recognize a permanent reduction in hours so you getting UI should be a lot easier than what other people go through.
Okay I was feeling uncomfortable around an employee and went to one of my managers and told her I felt uncomfortable around this employee so she made it to were I didn't have to work with him mean while my other boss was out because of surgery she came back all of a sudden I'm back on his schedule so I sat down with her about it and she said I couldn't prove it and next thing I know my hours have been cut and I have been here a year I live in GA I feel I'm being harassed now can I draw partial unemployment because of this or file a harresment claim?? How much were your hours cut? (That would be important to know as far as UI is concerned)
Does "feeling uncomfortable" refer to any type of sexual harassment?
Are you saying one boss took you off the same schedule of the person you did not feel comfortable with, and the other boss scheduled you with that person again? (and the second boss cut your hours?)
By "file a harassment claim", do you mean file a complaint with the EEOC?
As far as sexual harassment is concerned, your workplace should have some procedures in place for how they handle those complaints. Did they follow those procedures? (Telling the complainant they "can't prove it" and then cutting the hours of the complainant should not be one of the procedures). You might want to read up on some of the EEOC guidelines to help you decide what to do. https://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/sexual_harassment.cfm
after being here at my job as a tow truck company dispatcher working 4 days 12 hours shifts 48 hours a week at $11 dollars an hour one of the owners friends or someone he knew got hired and he took my days and hours from me now I work 2 days a week 18-19 hours so they took 30-31 hours from me I got 3 kids and I cant do it but I need the job now I been here a little over 6 months and they treat me like a slave doing other people jobs even filling up my bosses personal car gas they pushing me to quit and all this started after I confronted my boss that the manager was recording me had a recording under the desk without permission what can I do I live in Miami florida
Just keep going to work while you find a new job or an additional part-time job. FL's UI is max of $275/wk but you might get less, and I think is only good for 12 weeks currently. You can apply and try to get a partial UI benefit. I have a feeling you started to work the new, lower hours, and didn't complain, and it's probably been long enough that it will be treated as acceptance. Therefore, quitting and getting UI because of the "substantial change," might not be for you.
The company I worked for almost 2 years as full time decided to change me under part time.
They gave me a choice to either take part time or termination.
I never gave them an answer and allowed the company to decide for me.
The Monday I worked thinking I was still full time, I received a letter after the work day was over for being part time effective immediately. I never knew that Monday I worked was officially part time.
They cut me from full time to part time , lost full time hours and benefits.
The same week I didn’t show up for work because I had to take care of something personally and wanted the company to ensure they pay me for my paid time off.
The next Week I asked for my termination letter and never received it because they claimed I took the part time job which I did not agree upon neither did I sign or agree.
They told me to resign, I did not resign nor wrote a resignation letter.
Then they terminated me as part time job abandonment because I didn’t show up for my part time job I never agreed on.
Any advice on claiming UI?
