I have received unsolicited emails inviting me to apply for positions on a few occassions now. I’m just starting out on unemployment, and am wondering if I have to follow up on these “invitations” or risk jeopardizing my benefits. These jobs have not been relevant to me, and require skills and qualifications that I do not possess. I’m assuming they pulled my contact info from the job search websites that I am registered with. They seem spammy to me. Any insight would be appreciated!

The only ones you might have to apply for come from the UI people.

That’s good to know. Do the UI people only send you jobs to apply for after you’ve been receiving benefits for a while? Or how often does that happen?

I don't know if they do that anymore, but they could. The UI people are the only ones with the power to tell you to apply for a job. When they don't, you are in full control of where you apply for work provided you meet the minimum contact requirements.
