I'm in California and am about to complete 6 months of EDD benefits which'll exhaust my maximum benefit amount. My claim expires 6 months after that. I'm not sure what happens next.

Is the state EDD automatically going to file for a federal extension on my behalf and then I potentially receive more payments or...

...because my max benefit amount is exhausted am I done?

Or does it play out differently than either of those two scenarios?

I've done a lot of searching and can't find a clear answer.

California will automatically transition you to EUC Tier 1, if your claim qualifies.

In order to qualify in CA, the total base period wages used for your claim must be:
  1. 1.5x your highest quarter wages, or
  2. 40x your weekly benefit rate.
Keep claiming. CA will do the rest.
