If there is any doubt, file the claim and let the state sort it out. Depending on the amount this "training" might pay, there is the potential for a partial UI check, and you don't want to miss out on that because you decided to guess. There just isn't enough information in your post to make any sort of determination. What if you don't pass the test? Do you get nothing? What state are you in? Determines the partial benefit formula that will be used.

Sounds like this is analogous to going to school full-time, rendering claimant Not Able and Available. How does claimant answer that question? Also, what about job searches? Unpaid training does not sound real great, frankly.

I accepted a job but won't receive a check for a month. I still need to be able to live of the $275 per month to get to a job (gas, eat, etc). Do I claim I am working but still not getting paid? If so, will I still be able to receive my unemployment benefits?

You report the gross amount you earned regardless that you got a check or not.

UI benefits are for when you aren't working, not so you can have money while waiting on your next check. Depending on how much you're getting paid, you might qualify for a partial UI check, but chances are if you're working 40 hours per week, you won't get a partial UI check. At least not with a $275/wk UI benefit.
