Hey All

So I just got a job. However like with most jobs that pay every other week I will not get paid for 3 weeks. I still have bills to pay and such while I wait. So should I continue to claim unemployment until I get my first pay check? And if the answer is yes should I when filling it out online mention I have a job or no?

I live in Jersey if that helps

Thanks

Is the job full time? If not, you may very well still be eligible for benefits and should keep claiming.

When's your first actual day of work? If it's Tuesday through Friday, you might still qualify for a partial benefit for that first week of employment because you didn't work 40 hours that week.

However, if you think you can work regardless of when you get paid, you'll be setting yourself up for trouble. Employers all report by law to a New Hire data base. You will get caught eventually.

I am not trying to get over on anybody I just am not sure how this is done since I could not get anyone on the phone. It is a full time job, I will be dropping unemployment. I started on Tuesday of this past week but will not get my first check until 2 more weeks from now. So what do I do this Sunday when I go to claim unemployment?

Did you earn enough to exceed your UI check? If so, then don't file a claim.

Nothing you can do. You MUST report your work/gross earnings when you work on the UE claim form for that week. The fact that you have to wait two weeks to get paid these earnings is of absolutely no consequence and unrelated to your unemployment benefits. You will need to find another way until you get paid.
