I just received a letter stating that under section 1277 in CA, my claim is no longer valid. I am in my second tier of extensions and a bit confused. The letter basically states that my original claim that is valid for a year has ended, fair enough... but I am also concerned that with this action my benefits will be withdrawn, delayed or ended .

There is a statement at the bottom of the letter : "the determination does not affect your claim for extended benefits"

The correspondence is confusing as I have received a claim form for the next two weeks.

What should I do? I have tried to call several times without being able to get through to a human.

Has anyone had an experience with this?

Thanks!

It may just be informational concerning your initial claim.

That's what I am assuming too but I hate the vague abyss that unemployment seems to pull off so well.

I just wish their correspondence would be specific and clear.

Yeah, it would be nice if we had simpler public policies in order to lower our tax burden.

You've received the standard letter normal in CA at your bye if you have not worked. California has recertified your claim. Your benefits continue until 12/29/2012. Return the claim form.

8. I've been collecting for a year and am on Tier 2. My claim expires next week. What happens now?

Some states automatically perform the recertification process as long as you continue to file weekly or biweekly claims. In most states, you will need to telephone your state to RECERTIFY your claim. Your state will do a monetary reevaluation for a new claim. If you have not had eligible earnings during your past benefit year, your "application for a new claim" will be denied, your old claim reopened and you continue to receive benefits on that claim. You may receive confusing correspondence at this time, especially in Illinois. Be sure to telephone your state if this happens - and keep claiming if the system allows.

I have the exact same situation. But my Tier 2 Ended on the day of the 1 year anniversary of my claim. So, I still have yet to be given any information on my Tier 3 claim for which I am pretty sure I am eligible.

So do I still need to call the EDD to re-certify? Everyone knows how hard this is to do in California. Or will just sending in the Claim Form (which I haven't got yet) automatically certify my claim?

Thanks!

If you have NOT WORKED, CA will automatically file the recertification for you.

If you HAVE WORKED while collecting benefits, you must file a new claim online yourself.

Either way, return any claim forms you receive.

I received the same letter today, It says something to the affect I haven't had enough earning in 1 year period to warrant a new claim. I'm currently on tier 4 of my old 09' claim.
