currently been on unemployment way to long (laid off november of 2011, 2nd extension)
anyways, i was collecting unemployment pretty much all of 2012. getting max, something like 425 a week.
got this 1277 notice in the mail yesterday that states i must of earned at least $1300 in one quarter during all of 2012 in order to have a valid claim. is this legit, even though it was only the 2nd extension and there was plenty of money left in my balance?
the box on the bottom is checked-
"this determination does not affect your claim for extended benefits"
what exactly does that mean?
does this notice mean im pretty much done for unemployment and no other way to collect again? thats pretty much what i got out of it.
thanks in advance!

That isn't what it means at all. It means exactly what it says:
Quote:
"this determination does not affect your claim for extended benefits"

You reached your bye, CA did a monetary review, determined no eligibility for a new state claim, and will continue to pay the federal EUC benefits from your old claim.
Per FAQS:
Quote:
8. I've been collecting for a year and am on Tier 2. My claim expires next week. What happens now?
Some states automatically perform the recertification process as long as you continue to file weekly or biweekly claims. In most states, you will need to telephone your state to RECERTIFY your claim. Your state will do a monetary reevaluation for a new claim. If you have not had eligible earnings during your past benefit year, your "application for a new claim" will be denied, your old claim reopened and you continue to receive benefits on that claim. You may receive confusing correspondence at this time, especially in Illinois. Be sure to telephone your state if this happens - and keep claiming if the system allows.

CA will be sending you claim forms for continuation of your Tier 2.

Hi I am in the same situation with Jhonny. I just wanted to be more specific with my situation.
I received letter yesterday as well. All letters from A-D were marked aside from letter E. And the determination does not affect your claim for extended benefits is all marked.
I just wanted to be rest assured that I have NOTHING to file or claim. Just disregard the letter? I am currently receiving benefits but just wanted to make sure if they stopped it after this letter was sent.

I have no idea what A-E are. The only thing that matters is:

As I said:

I've been laid off since Feb 21, 2012. My benefits were cancelled for a brief period of time due to overpayment. But they started back up after my time period ended.
I got a Determination Letter in the mail today of Invalid Claim Section 1277.
"Your claim is invalid under section 1277 for the reason(s) checked below
(a) You were not paid nor did you earn wages of at least $1,300 as an employee in one quarter of during above period.
(b) You were not paid nor did you earn wages of at least $900 as an employee in the quarter of your highest earning during h above period.
Box checked for THIS DETERMINATION DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR CLAIM FOR EXTENDED BENEFITS
Any unemployment insurance claim you file will be invalid under section 1277 until 07/2013 at which time this test will no longer apply.
Can someone let me know the steps I need to take in order to still receive benefits. I worked a couple of weeks which I only earned $700.91. If I need to call someone in the state branch what is the number. Please advise.

You don't do anything. This letter is a nonevent.
You had reached your bye (benefit year end) in 2/2013. CA did a required monetary determination for new state claim eligibility. You did not earn enough to qualify for a new state cali.
Thus, assuming you are now collecting federal EUC on the 2012 claim, your federal EUC benefits will continue to be paid. You should be receiving claim forms from CA soon.
