Sick Days & Applying for UI...WWYD? (apply, work, employment)

My last work day is technically May 23rd. I just decided that I'm going to use 3 (of my several) sick days, so I don't have to return to work anymore. (Of course I'll say to my work that I'm really not feeling well.)

Can I apply for unemployment NOW or do I still have to wait till May 23rd to apply?

If I truly knew, I wouldn't waste time asking, but I'm going to wait until the 23rd to be on the safe side. Actually, I wish I could close this thread.
