I live in Tn and recd a letter that my unemployment will drop by

174.00 to only $60.00 week. I called in for my weekly recerification the voice recorder just stated Benifit yr has ended. I went to local unemployment office and was told they no longer can help me and I had to call the unemployment office in Nashville but I can not get through. I have tried over and over and just get recording they can't take the calls at this time and to try again. Very frustrated and I can't be looking for job if I have to spend all day on phone trying to get through. Please help me! I tried looking on web site for help but can't find what I need their either. Not sure what this would be called as far as Tir 1 ect? Any help I would really appricate.

Default Letter recd but now can't get through to unemployment office?

I live in Tn and recd a letter that my unemployment will drop by $174.00 to only $60.00 week. I tried to call in my weekly certifcation but the recording stated my Benifit yr has ended. I went to the local unemployment office and was told they no longer can help me I have to call the 800 number and she said "good luck getting through". She was right I have called all day for over a week now and still can't get a live person. The recording only states they can't recd any calls at this time, try again later. I need to find out what I need to do and if I am going to get check or what? Not sure what this is called as far as a tier 1 ect. I tried to find on the web site a place I could ask the question but nothing their. How can I get through to the Nashville unemployment office to find out what I need to do? I live over 4 hrs from Nashville. I can't find a job if I have to try calling all day? Help please.

The local careers/unemployment office *may* be able to help - the one in Kingsport won't assist. I was laid off in TN as of 7/1 and needed to file a "combined claims form" as I work in two other states other than TN last year and was told to call an 800 number. I was never able to get through either. If the phone service is consistently unavailable during regular business hours, I would think the office would be legally bound to assist. Luckily I start another job on Monday, but I just gave up on dealing with the unemployment office in TN.

taguffey, I think I am in the same boat with you.
I do not know your case, but when I needed to call UE office and got busy signal, I got my phone on the speaker and went back working on the computer. It helped me to get connected twice lately. Maybe that little tip will help you too. Best of luck to you!

Because you reached your benefit year end, TN has established a new claim for you based on your earnings during the prior benefit year.

If you began federal extension benefits on your first claim before your benefit year end, under HR4213 you should be eligible for a continuation of those higher federal benefits (less sequester reduction) until exhausted.

If you have been collecting federal benefits, appeal this award in writing, telling TN that under PL 111-205 aka HR4213, you request a deferral of the benefit of this new state claim until your federal extension benefits are exhausted.

If you have never begun federal benefits under your first claim, then you have no recourse and are stuck with the new benefit of $60. This is one of the hazards of working while collecting benefits. You become eligible for a much lower-paying claim at your bye. If, because you worked, you never advanced to the federal extensions during your first benefit year, you are out of luck on keeping the higher benefit.

You should start at calling the claims center number very early in the morning. Starting at 6:30 is very ideal. This is when I started and after two weeks, I finally was able to get in line to wait. But I waited almost 3 hours for someone to pick up. When you start calling, continue to call. Don't wait for the directions. Just press 1, do what it says, and then press 7,5,5, I think. Keep doing it until you get in line to wait. The guy that I talked to said that Wed thru Fri. were the best days to call but do understand that you will still have to wait. If you call from a cell phone, turn off any kind of notifications, screen savers, anything that might disconnect your call or you will have to start over and wait even longer.
