hi there,
can someone advise-I am in NYC. I have been collecting UI since Jan,2013. My claim suppose to end on Nov 3,2013. I haven't been working for the past 10 months, still searching for a job. I believe i am on extended benefits now. Will I be able to open another claim once this one is expire? I am hoping to find a job in a week, but i'm not sure if this will be possible at all. Thank you

No, if you have not worked, you are not eligible for a new claim when these benefits run out or you reached your benefit year-end in January 2014.
Do you know for sure you have no further federal extended benefits to claim? In NY, if you had a regular 26-week claim, you should receive:
26 wks NY state benefits
14 wks EUC Tier 1
14 wks EUC Tier 2
09 wks EUC Tier 3
which would take you to the end of the year. For now, all federal benefit payments end December 28, 2013.
If you had a claim smaller than 26 weeks, your federal benefits would be proportionately reduced - possibly exhausting all your benefits November 3.

thank you for your reply. my benefit ending year is Nov 3,2013. I have opened the claim in Nov 2012. long story, lets just say that i had this claim on file, until they laid me off from work and I was able to start collecting UI in Jan, 2013. I have been collecting since. So its around 42 weeks now. should be 44 weeks at the end of Oct. I received an extension after I've used the money that i earned through employment, and now i am on the extended benefits through the government. Not sure what tier I am . So, looks like I will be able to receive an extension until Dec 2013? Thank you
"Do you know for sure you have no further federal extended benefits to claim" ? -I have spoke to the UI rep very briefly today and she said just file a new claim once this one is over. I asked what employer would put, since I haven't worked all this time, she said put the most recent( which is the last employer)

You have to a file a new claim in order to continue on federal benefits from the first claim.
But - if you filed this claim in Nov. 2012 - and then continued to work for your employer until January - you will have eligibility for a new claim in November 2013 - because any earnings after the date of filing (11/12) are considered "new."
So, you should be covered well into 2014 with a new state claim, if that's the case - even if Congress doesn't extend federal benefit payments.

Should I open another claim? Am I eligible? I tried to do it online now, its sunday, but didn't work, as i started filling out the answers, I receive an error code. I will call UI department tomorrow. YOu think I can receive somehting in 2014?
Thank you in advance

Today is Saturday.
First, you can only open one claim in a 12-month period. You just did that in November. You do NOT need and cannot open another new claim. You already have a new claim.
Second, nothing should have ended for you in December, because NY opened a new state claim for you in November 2013. You are collecting state benefits and those state benefits are NOT affected by the December 28th cutoff for federal benefits.
As I told you upthread:

Please post - exactly - your new Notice of UI Award which you received from NY on the new claim opened in November. The exact maximum benefit amount, weekly benefit.
You should have weeks and weeks to collect.
Your efforts to open yet another new claim only a month after opening the other claim may have fouled up NY's system and you may need to call them to resume your NY state benefits.
But first, try to claim as normal on Sunday. If it doesn't go through, you'll have to call NY.

Appreciate your reply, OMG...ha ha, I thought today is Sunday, I went online to claim benefits. No wonder it didn't work. I didn't see the usual window where it says" CLaim WEEkly benefits" so I thought my claim is ended , and I went to open a new one, silly me. I am so stressed out that I will not have $$ to cover my rent and bills, that I forgot what day is today. I will see what is happening tomorrow. If I can claim or not. I did receive a notice from UI dept of labor, online, in my inbox account, saying that benefits are ending in Dec 28, unless they approve an extension. But since you saying it shouldn't affect me, that would be very helpful. I will call on MOnday as well, to make sure I didn't screw up anything,.Thank you again

Can't answer that until you post this, as I requested earlier:
