I started getting unemployment (tier 1) on 7/14/2013 it stopped coming on 1/8/2014 its been 6 months. So i filed to reopened my claim on 1/17/2014 and havn't even got a letter from them should i contact them? Or am i one of the 1,270,000 who are screwed until stuff gets worked out? Because i was told when you first get on unemployment you get it for atleast a year.

You don't get unemployment for a year. State of CA benefits are paid for up to 26 weeks. When those 26 weeks are exhausted, CA then paid federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) for up to another 47 weeks. CA - and every other state - was paying EUC until 12/28/2013 - when the federal legislation expired.

Yes, you are among all the others now waiting for Congress to agree to extend benefits which doesn't appear likely anytime soon.
