I would guess that there is anxiety entailed in returning to that employer and risking the possibility of another "temporary layoff."

I think many people are looking for more job security in today's environment. Unfortunately, I believe that job security is in very short supply these days, regardless of where you work.

Eligibility for unemployment benefits will continue to December 31, 2011. Depending on your state, you may be eligible EB after that. Judging from your screen name, it appears you are in CA. If so, without federal extension of legislation at end of this year, there will be no Fed-Ed in CA.

If you have reached the end of your first benefit year, you need to recertify your claim and your benefits should continue to the end of the year, possibly into early 2012 depending on what tier you are on. Call CA to be sure they are or will be implementing the recertification process for you.

Probably so. How much would be based on the wages you earned. Also, where did you work prior to that temp job?

Default Do I qualify for unemployment benefits?

Could someone please tell me, if I worked for a company through a temp service for 6 months and was let go, would I qualify for unemployment even though I am still registered with the temp service?

Maybe.

Being registered with the temp agency isn't the issue though. Why you got let go from the from the assignment you had is a factor. Did you contact the temp agency to give them a chance to find you work? Can you prove that you contacted the temp agency so they know you are available? Did you have sufficient earnings in your base period or alternate base period to be monetarily eligible?

My temporary agency allowed me to collect unemployment twice between jobs, but today the GDOL called me and said that I was supposed to notify the temp agency twice weekly that I was available for work, and they said that the temp agency would not release the hold, so I cannot collect for the past two weeks. Additionally, the temp agency will not send me an e-mail confirmation of receipt of an e-mail or phone call for being avialable. I did not know that temp agencies have the power to re-write the unemployment laws. Additionally, temp agencies have their assignment workers marked as active or inactive. They don't need the workers to call them twice a week to mark them over and over again as active. Talk about harassment.

I dont think being a temp necesarily voids your UI eligibility, I think other criteria such as how much earning you have going back and were you a 1099 or not. Anyway, I am someone who has been a temp since 2010 and filed against my agency initially in March 2012, went on assignment with them again, re opened the claim, went on assignment, re opened claim, all in all about 4 times in a year, so YES, you can qualify obviously with criteria.. such as past earnings to qualify...

People on this board gave me a link one time about a similar rule, that there are certain states who have this requirement that you contact the agency at the time the assignment end to apprise them of your availability. I did not recall it saying you had to contact them twice weekly, or even at any regular time after that, but maybe that is a state by state criteria?

That rule is not in effect in my state, and I have filed and re opened the claim with my agency several times in one year. I do, however, make it a point to send them an email notifying them of the assignment ending and for them to confirm they know this. But i do not notify them weekly or monthly that I am available. Why should I? I am not looking for a temp job, but a full time job. Now if they contact me for an assignment, I have to heavily weigh the potential penalty of not accepting work offered.

When I had my EUC interview recently, the interviewer asked about the company I filed against, which is a temp agency and asked if I regularly contact them. I said basically : 1. the agency knows if I am available and on an assignment with them,, 2. I Have been told by them that they would contact me if a 'suitable' match was found, and 3. I am not.looking for a temp job but a full time job.

I haven't run into any issues as of yet, I am on the federal EUC now.
