I filed for unemployment the hour after my last job ended. I did receive SOMETHING in the mail 10 days following my claim filing, as specified on the website, but I have no idea what it means. It was the DE 4581, which I guess is the two week certification Continued Claim form?

My questions:
-Was I supposed to receive anything else, like a letter of approval?
-Do I need file this via mail? Can I do it online or on the telephone?
-Should I call the Claims office first thing Monday morning before sending this in? (I've heard it's a nightmare to get through from reading previous threads. Any tips on getting through?)
-And basically, what do I do now if I ONLY received this one page continued claim form? Is that the right thing to have received, or should expect anything else? And then, when does the check come?

Thanks!

Anecdotally, EDD only sends money, not approval letters, and if you do get a letter, it will be a denial.

You can do either, but only do one. Sometimes when you try to file by phone or online, it doesn't always work, and then you must use paper until the telephone and/or online system becomes available to you.

What would you ask them? For now, you have everything you need to get started.

They'll mail you a new one after each payment, but do yourself a favor and try to get on web or telecert and save the price of a stamp.

You should get a debit card issued by BofA

How long it takes to get paid depends on WHY you lost your job. The uglier the situation, the longer it takes, and then there is the chance of no benefits at all.

I'd ask two things: How much is my weekly award, and also when do I get my EDD number so I can register online.

That said, from the information you gave me, maybe I'll receive both of these pieces of information once I submit my continued claim form?

This comes in the mail, but you can approximate it using the benefit calculator http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de1101bt5.pdf. It's wise to do anyway in case their number is lower than yours, you can do something about it.

I don't know anything about this. No one ever talks about it.

EDD will send you a letter with a number on it so that you can register for Web Cert, and I highly recommend that you use it, because when I certify on Sunday, my money is in the bank on Monday. It's calculated automatically if you enter any earnings.

That sounds great. Do you know if it's common to receive this after you've received the continued claim form?
