Currently I’m at 20 weeks or 19 weeks if the wait week doesn’t count out of 26 weeks of paid unemployment
I had 5 weeks of penalty, does that push back the number of weeks on unemployment to request California Training Benefits? I found a great program that will help to make me a more desirable hire and stand out in my field. The program starts the week before my payments on unemployment run out and would be perfect to use the CTB benefits and what’s really nice is the classes are online so I can keep looking for work.

I really wish that CTB was more discussed when you go on unemployment and the deadline was say at 20 weeks not 16 weeks.

— nevermind the above question —-
I got through to EDD just know and I am at 15 weeks so I was able to put in the request for CYB training and they made not of the request and advised me of all the steps.

As you probably learned in your call, you need to notify EDD of your interest in CTB before you RECEIVE your 16th week of benefits. To cover all your bases, I'd log on to EDD online and send a message as well to EDD about your interest in CTB--it will save a copy of your email with today's date in case there's any question if you called or not. Also, were you called in for an REA (Remployment assessment) meeting at the job center? If so, I believe that also automatically qualifies as expressing interest in CTB.

Good luck!
