I live in the boondocks. The largest town which any significiant population( 18k) is 1 hr 15 min away. About 1hr away is a town of 700 but it's the poorest town in our County with very few jobs.

There is one opening, 1 hr 15 min away for a 6-7 hr day/5 days a week. It's perfect for my skills but after gas & wear and tear on the tires cost, there will be little $ left. I averaged 35.5 hrs a week for 2019 and the last 2-3 months, worked 48 hrs a week.

Wondering how EDD will handle it if there no jobs for my line of work nearby. We live in a touristy town so the jobs are Seasonal during the Summer. I don't want to drive any further than 1 hr 15 min and even then, hopefully, holding out for a 24 hr shift. Wondering what EDD will think about this

My phone interview is in a week but am not taking the call. Employer would be stupid to contest it due to reasons around the firing so I suspect they will not reply. Who knows though. I think I am suppose to be looking for work right now though there are no certification weeks as of yet when I login to EDD

You can be cut off from benefits if they determine your prospects of suitable gainful employment in your geographical area is so limited you essentially are unemployable and thus need to be on welfare versus unemployment.

Miles is a moving target based on available transportation, time to commute, distance of the commute and cost of commuting. In "boondock" situations, suitability is also measured in how the community & prevailing standards for similar employment is handled. It could be that a 100 mile commute for 2 hours each way is suitable for your area.

Thank you Rabrrita. I'll not bring it up and apply for jobs 1 hr 15 min from my house in the closest largest town of 14k. I thought it was larger but just looked up the population. Also may try for some remote positions.

You worry about this WHEN you get an offer that's too far away. If you start telling EDD about your labor market problems, you're just going to create "able and available" issues for yourself.

Don't forget, only apply to jobs that you'd want, nothing worse than getting an offer where you have to say no because it's logistically impractical.

Thank you. I actually found a job but it's 2 hrs or 4 hrs round trip. Luckily they pay overtime so said they would call me when they have 24 hr shifts.

When Unemployment is close to ending, about the 4th month, I'll likely accept 12 hr shifts even if its's 4 hrs round trip just to start working. That's the breaks when you live in the boondocks.

Until then, it's writing down enough businesses to keep unemployment going.
I sure would like to be paid my $198 mileage check which they are still refusing. I made copies before submitting it. Knowing how they've treated others whom they fire, sort of always expected this would be the ending.

Phone interview 1-21 Did not answer. Was fired
Noticed this online today, it was approved so soon!
We'll I think it's been approved
Expected to wait 10 days
No card has arrived as of yet

I guess they can still balk though if there is ever a time I am out of the woods... I'd like to send in copies of my mileage sheet they owe me $297. If I do it now, there could be re-taliation

That's an approval.

You can wait until the appeal window closes to file the wage claim.
