I can't speak for other states but I heard there's over a half a million people that are about to hit a benefit year cliff in NJ. There's no possible way all of them can reach DOL and have new claims opened/denied so they can continue claiming.
There's gotta be an automated system put in place at some point

BENEFIT YEAR END: Federal law requires all unemployment claims to be reviewed after one year. Claimants approaching the end of their benefit year should take no additional action.
DO NOT attempt to open a new claim.
DO continue to certify for weekly benefits according to the schedule.
The review of your claim will occur automatically; the Labor Department will contact you only if more information is needed. If you recently reached the end of your benefit year, a review of your claim has been completed or is underway. When the review is complete, you will receive confirmation your weekly certification for benefits was successful.
