Did you file the EB application online? For me I had to open a new claim because my original claim ended last December. (same thing I had to do before my tier 2 kicked in, was denied new claim then) I was told to continue calling marvin on my scheduled day even though I only have 1 more call left. Today in the mail I got my new claim in the mail and it was denied so Im thinking, or atleast hoping that means the EB will kick in after my last call for tier 2 which is next week. I was told to go ahead and apply for the EB online even though I was not at the end of my tier 2 yet, so I would think it is ok for you to go ahead and do it if you was thinking you had to wait for your benefits to completely run out.

Reading back through your posts it seems you and I have about the same dates here as far as benefit year ending before jan 2009.....when you put your soc in the EB Application online it will prob tell you to file a new claim then you have to go back to the main page to file new claim for a new benefit year....it will take about 3 days to get your determination. If you file your new claim today it should unlock the EB Application and allow you to apply for that. Let me know what happens.

My ben. year ended in late Jan., while I was still collecting Tier II, so I had to do a new regular claim ap then, which was denied. I called UNE and they said that is the normal process. There was a brief hold up on my Tier II becuase they said I needed to register again with Michigan works back in July when I got the EUC app - even though I had registered in Jan. and your registration is good for an entire year! They then told me the "system had some glitches in it." The woman I talked to on the phone fixed the date and everything was fine.

I filed my EB claim on line a few days ago with no problem and am waiting for my determination.

MY SUGGESTION TO EVERYONE IS TO GO TO MICHIGAN WORKS AND RE-REGISTER EVERY TIME YOU FILE FOR ANYTHING NEW - EUC OR EB JUST TO COVER YOURSELF.

New information....on the front page of mlive.com:

Jobless benefits extended extra 7 weeks in Michigan

by The Associated Press Monday April 13, 2009, 11:49 AM

Gov. Jennifer Granholm has signed legislation extending unemployment benefits for an extra seven weeks.
The governor said Monday during a bill-signing ceremony at the Capitol that jobless workers now can receive benefits for up to 79 weeks while they look for other work.
They already were eligible for 26 weeks of state unemployment benefits, 33 weeks of federal help and 13 weeks of extended benefits. Those extended benefits now will be available for 20 weeks.
The state estimates more than 200,000 Michigan workers will have received extended benefits by year's end, with 70,000 qualifying by the end of April.
Michigan has the nation's highest unemployment rate at 12 percent.

Wow, this is awesome. A friend of mine had to call UIA last week about her payment on Tier II getting held up right in the middle, the woman fixed it and told her, "make sure you fill out an EB application." My friend said, "I'm supposed to get a letter," and the woman told her, "don't wait for the letter."

I submitted my EB ap. last weekend and they have it on record ( I called ) but I haven't heard anything yet...why is it taking so long to get determinations? The normal is usually just a few days after submission of the ap. I am REALLY hoping I don't have a gap in my checks, but I made my last call today...

Well, I was wondering if MM had gotten her EB benefits? I still can't tell if she did or not.

Well, here in good ole Philadelphia, it is still only 33 weeks, plus the original 26 weeks.

I got my EUC Tier I this week. Yippee!! Ughhh! ;-)

No, I dont know yet on the EB. I filed for a new claim like they said, got my denial, and then did the EB application online and still waiting to find out results on that. I do make my last tier 2 call tomorrow.

So, when we last talked, you said that they told you had to file another claim. That is kind of crazy, since you first re-file, which you already did and got rejected. Then you file your E.B. Why can't they just have you file your E.B.?
Wonders of wonders...

But then again, I did read that they are making it very hard for people to get E.B....like having to file weekly paper claims, file weekly job searches and having to wait until they review it, before they issue you a check.

And it is also strange that your Tier 2 has not finished and you are filing for E.B. already.

Where for me, I had to wait until i got my last check, then they redetermined me automatically, which they said would take two days, then I waited a week and then filed online this past Sunday. And i get my first EUC check this Wednesday. Very easy, but very nerve wracking since I didn't know if I was going to get it, until I got it!

EUC and EB are two different things. EB only kicks in when employment in a state meets a certain % criteria determined by a formula, Michigan qualified in early January of this year. The job search for EB is not that bad, write down 3 places you looked for work for each week you are calling on and fax the form in prior to your call. Michigan wants you to go through and make sure you are not eligible for a NEW 26 week standard claim before you move into the EUC and EB, made sense to me, I was ALMOST eligible; that's why you have to do that. In all the calls I've made to UIA since being unemployed in January of 2008, they have been very nice, and done all they could to help me. Yes, I've waited on hold for 10+ minutes like everyone else, but that's a small price to pay to actually get paid. I have no complaints. 79 totaly weeks of bens. when Michigan leads the nation in unemployment, I think they are doing what they can to help us. GO MICHIGAN! LOL. (Now find me a job!)
