In new york you get 26 weeks of unemployment in a 52 week period. My question is can you work part time in a job not related to your industry and postpone the unemployment benefits without it being a hassle?

A person who answer's phone at an office is going on maternity leave and they want someone to work part time (20 hours a week) for about 3 months. If a person claiming unemployment benefits took that job, after three months would she be able to claim benefits again without the hassle of having to apply for it again?

The job actually pays less than unemployment but it might beat the boredom of staying home all day.

I don't know about New York, but in Illinois, a person I know worked part time at a restaurant and as long as he made less that $X per week, he was entitled to receive an unemployment check. I think the amount was $300. One week, he worked an event, and his check was like $304, and they notified him that he was no longer eligible to receive unemployment. It's definitely worth checking into. Your unemployment office should be able to give you exact details.
