I recently received a letter from the NCESC denying my unemployment claim based on a part-time job. I was applying for the second extension on benefits and had to resubmit for a new benefit year. Back in June I took a part-time job at minimum wage for about 12 hrs a week just to get out of the house! My last permanent employment for which I was receiving unemployment was for $55k a year but I've been unable to get another job in my field. So they have denied my claim saying that I am employed but I can't figure out how $96.00 a week qualifies me as employed? I thought taking a part-time job was good and I was still applying for, and receiving, my benefits the whole time. So I'm confused now.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice to offer? I'm going to call on Monday and try and figure things out but until then I hope someone has some suggestions. Thanks so much!

People on this board criticised me for not trying to work at McDonalds, but yeah, it's better not to work a PT job if you're getting lotsa U. I. Benefits. Sometimes they use a PT job as an excuse to cut you off benefits. TX tried cutting off my benefits but I successfully complained and continued getting benefits.
I don't bother with PT jobs when I get $403 weekly, plus $1018 monthly SSDI.

I'm getting some deja vu in this thread, could swear someone else had posted the same thing as the OP before to a tee, and someone posted the same response as jesse, to a tee.

The only thing I can say is I was also recently denied my extension claim (I'm not working part time). I actually found this board while searching the internet for information about it. There are a lot of comments on the internet from people who seem to be qualified but are denied anyway.
It almost seems like the unemployment offices are automatically denying every claim, and making everyone appeal the ruling to get benefits. To me it feels like that movie The Rainmaker in which the insurance company has a policy of denying all claims for a year on the assumption that most customers will give up and won't consult a lawyer.
My only advice is to keep trying. I filed my appeal and am waiting a hearing date. In the meantime I also got the Director of Unemployment Benefits' email address (from a neighbor) and wrote a long letter outlining the struggles I've had with her department. She responded on Friday afternoon with a name and number of someone who might be able to help, and negate the need for a hearing.

That might work fine for someone who can get the $1018 monthly SSDI because of poor health or age or whatever but for most people, I think staying employed is a whole lot better than laying around collecting free money and letting their resume fill up with very long gaps in employment.
Unemployment handouts might not go on indefinitely - even though it seems as though they will - at some point the national debt will reach it's maximum and then the fun begins. It would be better to be accustomed to working and making sure one is employable and has a solid resume.

What is wrong with you lazy assess?? Get to work!! Who do you think pays for you to sit on your fat ass and eat bon-bons all day?? It's the other half of the population who are going to work every day earning an honest living and forced to support the poor decisions that make up the sum of your life! You should be ashamed of yourselves...

You really needed to resurrect a 6 month old thread just to vent your spleen here?

@Work Smarter, you're just another troll who doesn't understand the actual realities of unemployment.

Reminds me of a certain (no longer a member) poster actually. Certainly the same worn old sentiments.
