I received unemployment from Nov 2014 until I found a job as a dental assistant in December. The guy was a nutcase, and since I worked for him for 2 weeks, he screwed up my unemployment. I continued to receive benefits, and now I am paying them back.

Here is my question. I was a 911 trainee from January until June, making great money, and I was fired
I am eligible for unemployment now, but my benefits are reduced because I have to pay back the state.

My rate should be $330 per week, but now it is $215, and I am drowning! The part time job that I was offered is 911, but during training it is only $10 per hour, and it is a different center, with alot to learn.

I know I can work pt and still claim benefits, but you can only make up to 50% of your benefit. Will my benefit be considered the $315, or am I only allowed to make up to the reduced benefit at my new job?

For example...my allowed benefit is $315. The state is taking $100 a week in back pay, so which amount is considered my benefit amount?

I know, clear as mud, right?

The $100 deduction to repay the overpayment has nothing to do with determining your weekly benefit amount.

Your allowed benefit remains at $315.

Too bad this happened. Many denials can be overturned on appeal. Did he fire you or did you quit?? Did you appeal Illinois' decision? It takes time, but appeals are worth the effort - especially if you were fired or otherwise maneuvered out of your job.

Than you SO much

I honestly thought I was fired, but he told unemployment that he didn't fire me. He refused to teach me anything. I had been as assistant for 7 years, but each office is different. He talked in circles, and would tell me at the end of every night that "this clearly was not going to work out"

I went so far as to offer to bring someone in to practice on (just taking tooth xrays) because I had done it for 7 years, on my own time, and he would just tell me that clearly we were not on the same page (?? Say what??)

The last night that I worked, he had me in tears (I am a mom of teenagers...I don't cry!!) and he told me to leave my keys to the building on the desk. I took that to mean that I was fired, but I lost the appeal, because he said that I quit.
