While driving my husband and I saw this large bright object go across the sky really quickly but it was so fast we didn't have time to process what just happened. We were in the city, so it was much brighter than any star or plane. The only thing I could think of is a gigantic shooting star but I've seen thousands of those and usually those are much dimmer and slower... I'm hesitant to say that it is an UFO...
It is estimated that approximately 22,000 tons of meteoroid and micro-meteoroids impact the Earth's atmosphere every year. The vast majority are only millimeters in size and completely burn up still over 40 miles above the Earth's surface and appear as "shooting stars." On any clear night of the year, an observer can expect to see 10–12 sporadic meteors per hour. Sporadic meteors can appear from any part of the sky, and about 500,000 sporadic meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere every day.
If a meteoroid makes it through the earth's atmosphere, it becomes a meteorite. Approximately 30,000 meteorites of a mass greater than 3.5 oz (100 g) fall to Earth each year. Of these meteorites, the majority weigh just a few hundred grams, only a few (about 5,000) weigh more than 2.2 lb (1 kg), and fewer still (about 700) weigh more than 22 lb (10 kg).
It sounds like what you and your husband saw was a large meteoroid or meteorite. The can travel quite fast, with speeds anywhere from 7 miles per second to 41 miles per second.
So we are like the trailer park of the Milky Way? I can live with that!!!
Exactly

We're definitely way too far away. Our nearest neighbor is a little over 4 light years away and beyond them is another like, 6 light years away from there.

UFO is unidentified by definition.

All it takes is a technology. How about one that is a million years in advance of ours. I believe the center of the galaxy is the oldest part.

Actually, globular clusters have the oldest known stars in the Milky Way, dating back to the very early stages of the universe. Globular clusters appear throughout the Milky Way Galaxy, some close to the center, others on the outskirts of the galaxy. The Milky Way is also the culmination of several other galaxies that it has "eaten" over the eons. The Milky Way is currently devouring another galaxy as we speak: The Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy. In approximately another billion years or so the Milky Way will be consumed by the larger Andromeda Galaxy.
The sun was setting and I noticed an object moving in the sky. The sun was behind it, but it was lit up on my side. There are quite a few planes that travel that section of the sky, so I know what they look like. This was totally different. It had no blinking lights. It did have what appeared to be 'squares' or windows all along the craft, from top to bottom. I would say it was either disk shaped or a lozenge shape, probably the latter.
I did see another UFO about 30 years ago. Interestingly, I had been pulled over by a cop, and he saw it too! (I don't think I got a ticket...LOL)

So, you say the chances of intelligent life elsewhere are similar to a number near our national debt?
I was living at Clovis, NM in 1976 during the infamous UFO events that year. I was also in Phoenix the night of March 13, 1997, when the "V" formation of lights supposedly flew over the City. Both times I saw nothing out of the ordinary.
I do, however, believe in alien abductions. I am quite sure I was born on a planet different than the one I now find myself on.

I read that as "It was most likely an alien." and I pictured this humongous bloated grey alien flying through the air like a slow moving Superman, and I laughed out loud.
I saw one a couple of weeks ago.

I saw one "up close and personal" - in 1970. Some say experimental aircraft - then why hasn't the technology come to the fore by now? Why would we send people off to fight ground wars if we possessed this?
I know other people who have seen strange stuff, - most know what normal aircraft behave like. There is always something odd or unconventional that grabs people's attention.
But when close up there is no doubt.
