U.S. Consulate’s letter tells of horrific UFO incident

A letter dated Nov. 17, 1886 sent to to Scientific American from the U.S. Consulate to Venezuela Warner Cowgill described a horrific UFO encounter experienced by a family of nine who suffered major burns as a result.

In the letter, Cowgill is clearly mystified as to what had caused the family’s and their animals’ terrible burns. Of course, this was at a time when the effects of radiation exposure were largely unknown.
