Every couple of years, decades, etc there is a date for the end. I remember going into the year 2000 people in the supermarkets stocking up on batteries, flashlights, non-perishables etc cause the computers were going to go wacky and launch the missiles or plunge us into the dark ages. There were a few minor glitches and they were prepared for them. Then this past Sept a "global earthquake was going to destroy us. There was the 5/5/05 thing also.
On Dec 22nd 2012, The next day after this "doomsday" will be the same. People will still be nuts, The world will still have strife, And Earth in her majestic beauty will still be standing. She is a tough mistress. She has survived asteroid strikes, Quakes, Floods, And us.
On a side note, Not all the 2012 scenarios are negative. The "Timewave zero" theory, the peaceful alien race coming to help our world etc. The Mayans were believers in miracles, So if anything I think they might have been predicting a new age and unity. I do not think this is the case either. Just enjoy life, be good to others, And know we all eventually have our ending as individual lives. It is really simple if you think about it.
If this Brooklyn boy is wrong, well..Just make sure the beers are cold, The women or men are hot and you have gotten around to cleaning out that junk drawer that seems to be a bottomless pit.

One day, the doomsayer's will be right.
And, as we all sink into eternal oblivion, we'll say, "Damn! I didn't see THAT coming!"
My wife says the Mayan calendar may have ended right there because the Spaniards showed up and killed the calendar maker.
