Has anyone else seen this film or read the book? I saw the film first and it intrigued me enough to read the book. The book was quite sad. It was a true story involving a family plagued by abuse and a mysterious entity.

Wikipedia:
Shot in the Heart is a memoir written by Mikal Gilmore, then a senior contributing editor at Rolling Stone, about his tumultuous childhood in a dysfunctional family, and his brother Gary Gilmore's eventual execution by firing squad in 1977 for a convenience store murder he committed in Provo, Utah.

In 2001, Shot in the Heart became an HBO film starring Giovanni Ribisi as Mikal, Elias Koteas as Gary, and Sam Shepard as the brothers' looming father.

Read and saw. I know that the family was plagued by abuse, and it was quite a long time since I read or saw the book or film. I though the "entity" was a metaphor for mental illness?

I could be wrong. If so, could you refresh my memory?

Metaphor? Possibly. It depends on your point of view and beliefs, I suppose.
