Sounds to me as if something was trying to come through but didn't quite make it... the hum more than likely was the sound of a build up of electrical energy like the hum you can hear from a transformer on a power pole. So, no other experiences since than?
There is a group, Eckankar. I believe that they are very much into making money, but I also think they have truth in a lot of their beliefs. They believe, as most metaphysical systems do, that there are many levels of the spiritual world(heaven). Each has a certain vibration and when contact is made you can tell the level you/the being is on by the sound.
I don't know if humming is addressed in their literature. I know buzzing was and after my dad died as he was trying to contact us we heard buzzing. This is not the case with all contacts, though, in my experience.

You're kind of freaking me out, JoCo Freak! I grew up in Shawnee and find myself wondering where exactly you are located, but of course that's not something you'd want to divulge to a stranger on a public forum. I go back often and drive by where I used to live in Shawnee. There were three houses on many acres then. Now it is a subdivision and the house where I lived and one of the other houses were torn town to build the subdivision, but the main original house remains. Some of the people who lived on the property have now died - my parents, the two adults who lived in the main house, and I don't know about the people who lived in the other house. When I go there I feel like they know I am visiting. It's a weird feeling because the whole place where the subdivision now is was my playground and I can still tell where landmarks were from my childhood - the woods I played in, and although the path is probably gone now, when I look where my house stood and where the main house is, I know exactly the path that I took from my house through the woods to the main house, and I see where the creek was, the hill behind my house is still there. I just get the feeling that the people who are now gone are still there, knowing that I am there and memories of the way things were. I have a strange connection to that property/that land.
I have had some creepy stuff happen to me when me and my dad moved into a apartment when I was almost 13 or 14 years old ever since then I have these Demons around me but they are like spirit guides now even if I don't understand them sometimes cause not long after I started becoming a witch.
what a great post. I've often suspected my pets were more intelligent than many humans. I've also wondered why we humans think we're the smartest beings. I suspect it is all about perspective, but that's a whole other topic.
regardless, I suspect most animals are under estimated on their intelligence level.

I don't think some animals are as dumb as we take them for. We judge everything by our capabilities, which is to be expected. We are not sure why geese fly in formation. I see pigeons sitting together on a neighbor's roof. I know they are sunning themselves, but they are surprisingly smart animals, and I think something is going on, even though I cannot detect it. Cats will at times follow 'nothing' about a room with their eyes.
There is one school of thought that says psychic ability was something we may have had before we ad a written language, and diminished in some proportion with our verbal and written capabilities. There are others who believe we are evolving and will gradually become more sensitive over the generations. We are leaving an age in which brawn is necessary to exist and rely on and train our mental facility more.
