Some UFO sightings have made major news outlets. One in CA and one here in my hometown of Brooklyn.
UFO Sightings In America Blamed On 2012 Apocalypse Fears (VIDEO)
There is speculation there are increases in these phenomena due to the 12/21/12 "end of days" prediction. Anyone think there is some unnecessary hysteria related to this?

I think there's a lot of unnecessary hysteria.
Seriously, his many times has the world supposed to have ended? It's still here and so are we, besides, if it's gonna end there isn't a damn thing we can do to prevent it.

prevent it... no, but we can be ready to meet our Maker as the phrase goes. That is never a bad thing to do, and whether the world ends or not, it is a constructive way to live life.
If you are ready, it really does not matter when the world ends or whether it does end or not. The result is the same.
Media is only being media so it will hype everything up. Both sides have their say and no-one knows what will happen. It is finally down to beliefs since no-one can say for certain.

I don't buy the 2012 Mayan hype but it sure does give one a good theme for a party! That said, my sister just saw a UFO on Tuesday morning at 530am. She reported it to MUFON and I searched recent sightings and found one 5 days before about 40 miles south of where she lives. The description was the same.
I would love to see one. I saw something weird in the sky a couple of years ago but it was too far away to see colors and tell exactly what it was. It was just a very strange flight pattern. I am used to seeing airplanes because I can see incoming flights from my house (too far away to hear them but I see them flying into SB and turning towards the airport to land).

I heard UFO sightings and paranormal stuff was declining in recent years. Hence why ASSAP recently stated that UFO's might not exist, after all.

That just doesn't seem likely. Look at all of the tv shows and found that have popped up about UFO's. do a search on YouTube some time and you will see that the phenomenon is alive and well.
