Considering the military has repeatedly shot at UFOs since WW2 I'd think they would avoid the hostile, crazy bipedal apes and go underwater to meet the dolphins instead.
Agreed. The military is focused on a potential threat and not being a welcome wagon, And containment with a level 4 bio-hazard protocol awaits any being with his/her/it's being on our soil.
To make matter worse, There is a program where anyone can send twitter messages to a nearby star system said to be home to several "Earth like" worlds. It made the news recently. The things people are sending range from stupid to insulting. Now, They may never even decipher what it means if they are advanced enough to even receive these messages (Assuming they use radio at all.) But if they do, You can bet we are not on their list of worlds to visit if they are friendly. And hoping they don't get insulted if they are hostile and see it as a challenge.
You don't make friends with someone by barging uninvited into their house. Friendly aliens would place their ship in Earth orbit and establish communications. They would land where we invited them to land thus demonstrating their friendly and cooperative nature. In practise, of course, we would not invite them to land because of the fear of microbial contamination. Instead, we would invite them to move their ship close to the international space station and we would meet them in orbit. Landing your spacecraft at some random location on someone else's planet without permission is very rude and would likely be interpreted as a hostile act.
I understood that a large percentage of the population believed that aliens were already here and working with our governments to establish new technology (only for the military, of course). See the Disclosure Project where many hundreds of ex-government workers attest to this and swear of its truth. Plus the whistle-blowers and hackers who have repeatedly exposed the existence of aliens and their technology.
Are we all saying that everyone who has ever seen a UFO is mistaken?
Are we saying that everyone who has ever believed they were abducted is mistaken?
Are we saying that there are no other dimensions to this world than the 3 +time that we know about?
If any of this is false, it is highly likely that the aliens are already here and have been for centuries and millennia. Some believe that they live undersea and in remote places such as Antarctica as well.
I think that even if the aliens appeared on CNN, people would think it was a TV special effect creation and would not believe it was true. You would have to have one going around shaking hands with people to convince them and even then.... no-one would believe the seconhand accounts from those who had shaken hands with the alien.
I find it likely that they would either try to land in central Antarctica for a softer landing, Point Nemo for ocean exploration or Kazakhstan for being in the middle of the largest landmass. It would depend on the aliens in question, so those are just the three most likely landing sites.
Where would we land? Perhaps on an island so we can scout the situation, then lift off quickly before things get too hot with ground forces. How about Malta? That would give us short-ranged access to a variety of biomes, so we can build a picture quickly. If not there, then possibly a smaller island in Indonesia.
