Can ghosts appear where you live just by reading stories and watching TV shows about ghosts? I'm only reading about it, that's all, I won't perform any rituals, nothing like that.
If a ghost is to be seen, it will be seen regardless of what we do.
I don't for one second believe that indulging in ghost material is like ghost bait.

Just reading about them will not cause them to appear if none existed there before.
It will however have a field day with your imagination.

I've been on a dozen or so ghost hunts after I got interested in the subject... never seen or experienced anything except for once with a K2 meter that would "respond" every time we asked a random question for a few minutes (still not very good evidence for me, anyway).
Otherwise, all my "haunting" experiences at my home happened "out of the blue" when ghosts were the last thing on my mind.
I don't think you can force a real paranormal experience... but it's easy to create a faux "paranormal" experience with simple psychology. I don't think ghost hunters will ever find proof of the phenomenon for that reason.

That all depends. If what you are reading is opening your own latent ability to see and or communicate with spirits, then yes, after reading or watching something you could start seeing spirits. It's possible, but how likely it is... well that's a whole nother thing.
Have you ever seen spirits/ghosts? How strong are your physcic abilities? Are you open to those things? Do you have a history of paranormal experiences?
Generally unless you put yourself into a place where there is already activity, you're not going to suddenly have experiences just by reading about them or watching a movie about them. That is unless you already have a history of such experiences.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Generally spirits/ghosts are harmless and aren't scary or dangerous, so even if you DO see something, it'll be like seeing a shadow or a light.... and it won't hurt you. The experiences of those who have actually been harmed by an entity are few... but they get the most press!
