My father-in-law is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. He recalls an event years ago (circa 1970's when he was a teenager) from a small town in Illinois.
One night many people in the town were awakened by bright blinding light in the sky. A light brighter than day. Scorching, blinding. The next day some people had sunburns.
Also the next day official personnel came to interview the people in the town who had witnessed the bright light. The official personnel told the citizens not to discuss any of it.
Dresden nuclear power plant is about 30 miles northwest of Bourbonnais ... there were a number of problems with it in the 1970s but I don't see how that could have caused the incident described.
There's a lot of stories floating around with similar themes. Chances are the "official personnel"
were the so-called, men in black.
