I've done this a few times. Once I went to a PL regressionist for a therapy session that covered a single past life and lasted about two hours, and two other times I did this in a group setting with a leader who took a bunch of us through several separate regressions over a three or so hour period. I've also done this on my own many times since then, as a part of my training and work as a shamanic practitioner.
I actually found the group sessions to be more interesting and helpful than the one on one session, but that's just how things played out for me. I really liked the support and social aspect of doing this with a group and sharing our experiences afterwards. But I enjoyed all of these experiences, and I feel got a great deal of insight and healing out of it.
Of course you know this, but just be sure that whoever you are working with has a great deal of experience in dealing with what might come up when looking into what happened in a past life. Some references would be a good idea as well.
