I can't prove that it is true or not...but I can speculate that it's not true.

It has been studied and discovered that in most cases the individual was a smoker and probably fell asleep with a cigarette. The cigarette falls and smolders in the upholstery of the chair, at some point the person succumbs to smoke inhalation and dies, and then the clothing acts as a wick and as the poor person is burning their fat actually liquefies and wicks through the clothing and continues burning.

The experiment with the clothed pig that was done, actually proved that it can and apparently does happen, but it requires an ignition source such as a cigarette, a spark from the fireplace, or a candle.

eta: I will try to find a source...

Logically, spontaneous human combustion is seemingly impossible because of the human body being. 60 percent water. But our bodies are chemical compunds and what if,just what if something occurs within this chemical compund and causes it to ignite? It is a fact or brains carry electrical current, our bodys conduct electrical currents as evidenced by static electricity.....remember those little uncomfortable shocks we get from door nova and the like?I just think that we shouldn't write such incidents off the page so quickly.Whether you choose to believe this phenomena or not,my friends, stay safe out there.
I agree Mabel.

Many murderers have found that disposing of a human body via fire is very difficult. It's hard to reduce a human body to ash, even when an accelerant is used.

The SHC victims limbs are often not burned and yet the torso is consumed with flame.

I saw a documentary a day or two ago in which a body was set on fire with a cigarette. The 'body' was a pig wrapped in cotton cloth. The cigarette was place on top and the pig slowly caught fire but with such a low slow fire that the surrounds were unaffected. It is being said that only fat people can burn in this way. The body fats quickly wick into the smouldering cotton which fuels the fire. What scientist are saying is that while 'spontaneous' human combustion is a real phenomenon, it is not spontaneous.
