I do not know if you noticed but there is a logical link between the representation of alien spacecraft and the evolutionary state on human race, beginning with the biblical events the spacecraft is represented as a chariot, in 1800 as a flying vessel.

Or that people think of, and relate to, things they know. People today do not think of chariots so they do not imagine them as often as say an aircraft or science fiction movie.
