You might also check on online media discussing the vibrational state. It's mentioned in the book as well. It's been a long time but it was a stage in the process where the body's asleep but you seem to have greater awareness. You can feel it occur over the body and then it goes away. I'm not a believer in astral projection but there are things that you can do to alter consciousness at this point.

Oh.. while I remember. One thing I found out which was a revellation for me.

I occasionally felt as if someone was 'chasing' me back into my body. I used to wake up with a heavily beating heart and think I had just escaped from some frightful ending.

Once I realised that this is just your physical awareness registering that you(astral) are getting back in, then I never have had these 'chasing' feelings any more. Basically, nothing to worry about. This was what it was for me. YMMV however.

.
Classic symptoms of sleep apnea. Nightmares tend to be part of it.

A lot of it fits with lucid dreaming. Feeling of being trapped in the body at the end is due to the mind being fully conscious and the body still in sleep mode. In the book, I believe he talks about making suggestions to yourself before you try the out of body experience. You can influence dreams in the same way.
