The Betz sphere was a stainless steel ball about 8 inches in diameter. It was found on the Betz land after a bush fire on the property. Following many investigations by the military and other prominent scientists of the day, no-one seemed to know what it was but it was not claimed by the military and was supposedly not something secret.

Interesting article on this Betz Mystery Sphere

Quote:
This bizarre, allegedly self propelled, seamless metallic orb was discovered by members of the Betz family in 1974, and rapidly became the object of fascination, controversy and alarm for scientists, military officials, ufologists and the general public as the story of this mystery sphere spread like wildfire through the international media.
Also featured on TV program Ancient Aliens S12E02

At this time 2016-2017, no-one knows where it is. It has been 'lost'.

I thought it was eventually found to have been a machine part.

No, it was speculated that it was a machine part.

However, from the article, the phenomena reported, like moving on its own and 'humming' or vibrating does not make it likely it was just a machine part. Further down the article it addresses this issue - that it was maybe some kind of marine marker used by submarines. The Navy did not want to claim it so it is unlikely that it was something secret belonging to them. It reportedly moved on its own for some minutes so it was not just rolling around like a ball does.

If I had a dime for every mysterious metal ball that showed up, mysteriously, I would have 30 cents.
