I'm a skeptic when it comes to the paranormal. This a.m. my husband told me that for 6 nights he had heard footsteps in the house. At first he thought I was up and about but no. (I'm the first owner of this house and first house on this property although ancient Anazasi indians were here hundreds of years ago. ) What do you think? A spirit?

Did ancient Anazasis stomp around in shoes? Even so, wouldn't "they" be walking at their original ground-level, not on your floors?

IMO, it doesn't mean it has to be a "ghost" or spirit to hear footsteps when there should be none.

I'm a believer in the theory of momentary time slips, and also place memory. It's FAR more likely to be a simple cause such as one of those, than a spirit or "ghost".

By the way, I do NOT believe ghosts or ghost phenomena is due to former dead HUMANS trying to contact the living. There can be many reasons for this sort of thing, going as far as intelligent targeted actual demon activity. Though any intelligent demon activity would reasonably tend to be much higher grade, and always used as misdirection and to get us to believe dead humans can become "ghosts".

It could be/likely is as simple as audio pareidolia, where your husbands brain is finding a pattern in certain sounds, that his brain translates as footsteps.

Maybe your builder found that your property was an ancient burial ground, so, as a precaution, he dug up the bodies, urinated on them, and re-buried them upside-down.

I like this answer; more plausible to me. Being a light sleeper even with Flent's earplugs, I can still hear when a flea farts.

Hmmm...possible. Anyhow, I'm sure the building crew urinated on the ground out there ;-)

Yes it could be a spirit. It can happen.

If you're in AZ or NM, you should be able to find someone who knows how to deal with that sort of thing. It would be interesting to see what such a "specialist" says, if you can find the real deal.

First off one needs to know the composition of spirits, they are not matter as we humans are, they are similar to a vapor, therefore they are weightless.
Hearing foot steps could never be coming from a spirit.
