You haven't addressed what "remotely close" means - since searchlights can be seen 40-50 miles away depending on the power of the searchlight and the height of cloud base, what towns, cities, or major highways are within 50 miles if you draw a line from your observation point in the direction of the lights you're seeing?

I wouldn't start messing w/ lasers to try to contact or interact w/ it. Nothing will prob happen anyway & you know what they say, "Curiosity killed the cat." You don't want to get into any kind of trouble, etc.

Well, they don't work well in daylight, and they only reflect on the clouds when it's cloudy.

Those searchlights used to be much more prevalent. We oldsters took them for granted because we saw them all the time... for a grand opening of a store, for a sale at a car dealer, just about anything. I suspect the younger generations just never saw them before. Don't know why they are running in the middle of the night. Maybe a 24-hour grocery store?

I remember seeing those advertising sky lights when i was younger, I am familiar with what they look like...what I am seeing is something different. Those ad lights could be seen even when the skies were clear.

Besides that, if they are using those sky lights to advertise some big event, there was nothing about it on the news or the paper, no big events or such going on. I did mention that these lights only show up in the middle of the night, Ive never seen them earlier than 1am. The effective time for ad lights would be as soon as it gets dark, using them overnight would kind of be useless as most people are going to be in bed.

They are directly over the house in back of me, and their back yard, roughly about 400ft.

I also mentioned these only show up in the middle of the night, Ive never seen them earlier than 1am.

I watch the news and read the paper, there are no big events or sales on the nights I have seen them. I actually cannot remember the last time I saw these advertising lights used for a special event, Its been at least 10 yrs or so since I have seen them used.
