Is this safe to do? If I went to a psychologist or someone who specialises in this, is it safe?

I can't say whether it would be safe for anyone else, but I've had it done at least three times, never by a psychologist, and then I learned to do it myself and I've visited past lives a few times on my own, and it was fine every time.

If you are mentally and emotionally healthy, it should be fine. But if you are the type of person who obsesses over things you can't control, it might be better to let it go. There was a lot of violence in the past, and although a skilled practitioenr can hep you process what you see during a past life regression, you can't unsee something unpleasant, whether you are the victim or the perpetrator, and it can be unsettling, to say the least.

Also, you want to make sure that whatever the results, you don't dwell on your past lifetimes. We're in the here and now for a reason, and it's to live this life. I had a teacher who used to say, "Let's just peek at it for a minute." I think that's a good way to do it. Looking at past lives can help us to understand some of our current issues, but we still have to deal with them in the present.

One has to assume you believe in the modern (not the eastern religious) concept of past lives, which in my opinion is a 20th century new age pop-culture concept originating from books and movies. But anyways....

From what I read "past life regression" is based on hypnosis. One must realize this is a tool used for suggestion, not regression. There is no proven link into the "subconscious mind". Basically what ever memories you have on past life will be due to this period of suggestion, either from suggestions from the person performing hypnosis themselves or from what you are exposed to in your daily life - movies, books, TV, etc. I always find it funny that those coming from the therapy don't remember themselves as the town drunk or the guy that shoveled horse poop from the street, but as a swashbuckling count or countess. So it's probably harmless fun, but otherwise useless.

Where it gets dangerous is if they try to introduce false memories to your current life, again based on suggestion under hypnosis. That's where some of these "hey my parents sexually abused me as a child and I blotted it from my mind" claims come from.

This is a tool, just like the laser is a tool and can be used for whatever you choose to use it for. Eye sugery or weapons.

Why demonize something which is neutral and cannot decide for itself what it is used for?

How can you 'prove' a link into the subconscious mind? What IS the subconscious mind anyway? Has anyone photographed it? You are talking from a position of not-knowing which is merely opinion.

I think we need to find out what this poster means by 'safe' ? How do we know what is 'safe' for them? Do we know their medical history? No. Do we know who will conduct the sessions? No. Etc.

I've seen over 15 of my past lives using 3 different methods & have helped others to see hundreds of theirs.
Before I'd even knew that one could access past life memories, I'd had very vivid flashes of past life memories (triggered by stress) that were later verified.

Whether it's safe or not depends on who's conducting the past life recall & whether they understand the do's & dont's.
Suggestion for e.g., influences what people may 'see' & therefore is a big no-no (Remember that women many years back who planted false memories of childhood sexual abuse in every person she regressed?)

It's equally important to allow the subconscious/Higher Self/Over-Soul to guide the process rather than guiding the regressee to a particular past life. We don't know if a particular life memory is something that wont cause harm. Imagine seeing a past life where one was mentally ill or a mass rapist or serial killer for e.g., or if they suffered horrific abuse in that life.

It's been my experience that when the correct process is followed, the first 2 or 3 life times seen are fairly mundane, yet will be familiar & pertain, usually in a small way, to who we are today.

The best & safest method that I've found by far, is the 'Christos Experience' (Despite the name it has nothing to do with religion) A few years ago I found a tattered old paperback at a garage sale, 'Windows of the Mind' by G.M.Glaskin (ISBN - 0 09 910510) that explained the Christos Experience.
As long as the process is FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER, it's very safe & foolproof.

As to how one finds a reliable practitioner; I've heard more negative stories about Dr's & psychologists than the rest put together. Usually due to inflated egos. Rather than sit back & allow the process to unfold they want to take control & enforce their opinion. (Off course that doesn't mean that there aren't any good psychologists)
There's also bad hypnotists who should be avoided also.

So your best bet is to ask around for recommendations. Or you could obtain a copy of Windows of the Mind & study it with a few friends & go from there. It's a very simple process & entirely safe provided that you stick to the process without deviation.

Keep us updated whichever way you decide. Good luck.

Here is a synopsis of the method Commentary on the Christos Technique Alistair I McIntosh

Apparently the original name of this technique is ‘the Swygard procedure’ and was named after William Swygard from Miami USA.

This something I always wanted to do. I am very aware and believe e it is possible I do not think my conscience mind would allow me to let go enough to get their. I once went to a psycho therapist who said I would be relieved of my back pain after one session. needless to say, i never went into a semi conscious state and I got nothing out of it at all. Is it possible that I simply cannot go under? I have listened to YouTube videos that show you how to do it. They never worked. I think my mind will not give up being in control.

I've had some training in clinical hypnotherapy as a mental health professional. About 10% of people can't be hypnotized, the remainder experience hypnotic induction ranging from mild relaxation to a profound trance.

Because memory is labile (i.e., we rewrite it to an extent during consolidation), recovered memories are unreliable. It's not like recording data on a computer device. If you want to believe in past lives, a hypnotist can use suggestions to help you "remember" memories from past lives (as well as your current life) that you never actually had.

I didn’t do a past life regression, but I had a woman who claimed she was psychic tell me in a past life I was a very poor mother with a young son. The young son was now my husband. The mom died, and the son had a hard life and anger at his mom.

And this was playing out in our present lives. Explained a lot.

She also said to hold on, and not bail on him. The end result would be worth it. Also true.

She didn’t mention that bailing meant in the next life we’d have to do this dance again. Now, we won’t.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Some people have a problem with letting go. Sounds like you might be one of them.

There's many misconceptions about hypnosis. Rather than being induced into a "semi-conscious state", one is looking for a very relaxed state.

The first time that I was hypnotised, I went into it not knowing much about it & after the session I had no idea that I'd been hypnotised. Not being aware probably helped the process because I probably resisted.

It also depends on the hypnotists. A gf went to several without any luck & eventually I agreed to for her. She went into a relaxed state for me easily. Sometimes it's a matter of trust.

Practice meditation techniques for a while, that will help. And seek recommendations from friends & family for a good hypnotherapist.
