Learned a bit about Buddah poses in the process. Curious now, so I'll continue to help search. I have a beautiful wood laughing Buddha my father brought back from Shanghai.

The Chinese Laughing Buddha (sometimes known as Fat Buddha) isn't actually an image of Buddha. It's that of a 10th century Chinese monk/deity, Budai, of Chinese folklore, which was introduced into Zen Buddhism.

Interesting. In high school, we learned Buddha ate only one grain of rice a day, and I asked why he was portrayed as fat. Well, you finally answered my question!

I can't reach your 2nd link. I'll try again tomorrow. But, if you find something on the buddha I asked about, I'd be forever grateful.

You might try over at Beliefnet.com. I believe they have forums, but I couldn’t find them. I am not a member and forums might be for members only.
