Yes, I think this happens much more than we would like to think it does...its scary to think about actually...that you may not realize you have died.
That would be frustrating. I hope, if that happens to me,
that I get a clue from how everyone seems to be ignoring
me. I think that would be one of the main indicators
that I've passed on. Another might be seeing myself laying
wherever-it-is my death took place.
PS: My cat wouldn't be a good gauge that I've died because
they see everything. She'll likely just behave towards me
the way she always does, since she'll still be able to see me.
At most, she'll wonder where I learned how to tap-dance
across the ceiling, you know, like The Others do.

IDK about that, maybe there are lots of other people around you, that are in the same situation, they would be able to interact with you, so it would be tougher to recognize whats real...I think it all comes down to our minds trying to make sense out of something.

Perhaps, although the people in the same situation would
likely be those I don't recognize. Or, if I do recognize
them and they're in the same situation, they're probably
those I knew in life who I also knew had died. If I
see my late father standing there, acknowledging me,
and my not-yet-dead friend ignoring me, that would
be a clue that I've kicked the proverbial bucket.
I could see the whole experience being more confusing,
overall, for one who fully expected to not exist at all
after death. In that case I could see confusion
abounding, at least initially.
Who knows… It'll be trippy even in the best of
circumstances!

Yes, it will definitely be something very different!
Personally though, I have a feeling, if I was to die suddenly, I would be one of those who would not easily accept that fact, I can see myself standing beside my dead body, and STILL not accepting that I am dead! I have a GREAT fear of death though, so maybe that factors into my opinion on this. (its mostly just due to it being totally unknown, it could literally be ANYTHING, it could be your worst nightmare come true and you have to experience it over and over again continually...and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change it...no one knows!!)
To add another statement: in my research
of the paranormal, nothing raises the dead
more than a remodel of an old house. I have
read cases where entities become hostile
when a beloved design is altered. In these
cases, they just want the living to leave their
former residences the way they were.
I often wonder what ghosts want from us. Is it that they need help passing to the light or are they all demons like some religions think.
I just wonder what is the point is scaring people?
It doesn't make sense unless they are stuck and need help and want our attention.
I say this as I have many experiences of the paranormal myself and yet wonder what the point is. To me scary ghosts are like a bully using its advantages to frighten the mere human.
Any ideas?
No. They are not all demons as the ultra religious think. There are different kinds of ghosts. So, it largely depends upon the individual ghost.
Spiritualists believe that those who have crossed over, occasionally want to make contact with the living, usually close friends or family. These are not "ghosts" per se, because they have transitioned. There may be unfinished business, such as an apology, or they may just want to make contact and say "hello".
That is where a medium comes in.
I would not call these departed souls "ghosts". I'd reserve that term for spirits who are stuck between the world of the living and the dead.
There are also "residual hauntings"where an event is replayed over and over as though it is an imprint or video tape. In this case, the "characters" are not spirit at all. http://www.wexfordparanormal.com/types-of-haunting/ This will explain better than I can.
And yes, sometimes, but not frequently, hauntings are caused by discarnate beings. Some call them "demons"

I feel the same way. I am somewhat concerned that I am going to be a ghost.
to me, the most obvious thing that ghosts could use our pockets, something that us livings seem to take for granted. Who wants to carry their keys and loose change around in their hands for eternity?
