There have been swarms of mysterious drones flying together over areas in these states. No official claim to them and residents are freaking out. Speculation has ranged from a company mapping terrain to the military searching for lost ordinance. These drones are large and not like the store bought ones we see at parks.

I have been following that also. I am curious who is doing this and obviously the authorities want to find out. It could be a company like Google Earth or it could be archeologist looking for ancient ruins with LIDAR? The LIDAR explanation might be more plausible? It is possible that treasure hunters and explorers want to get an upper hand on the competition and they do not want people to realize what they are doing until they find something? Also, if they did find something, they might see how much the land is selling for and make an offer before the owner knows how much their land is worth. It would be a little like insider trading.
If that would turn out to be the case it might stir owners to have LIDAR used on their properties before they would sell?

The fact that the government doesn't seem too concerned about this tells me that the government is behind it.

If you read all the articles on this you would not have that opinion. They have been trying to find out where these drones are landing to interrogate the owner/s. They, like the landowners, are concerned and just want to find out why whoever is doing this. Possibly they are looking to fine or tax whatever is being done?

It sounds like a fish tale to me.

Nothing that a shotgun with some bird shot would not solve if it is over your private property although ask your local LEO and the FAA if it is legal first.

Right. It seems to me it would be pretty easy to follow the squadron of drones to see where they came from, if the govt was really interested.
Alternate theory: Amazon or some such trying to gain experience in commanding a fleet of delivery drones simultaneously.
I can't wait until they do finally start delivering that way. It'll be just a matter of time before one hits me in the head and I too can live The New American Dream for Success-- sue a big corporation for personal injury!!

From what I have read they only fly at night. That makes it hard to follow them to their source. The authorities have attempted to do that and have come up empty. I believe the FAA has even looked into new rules that would force drone owners to identify their craft. But I have no idea how that would work. Some have speculated these new rules are a reaction to these flyovers.

They were just talking about this on a local radio show. One guy suggested they were equipped with IR cameras looking for drugs in houses, anther guy joked they were looking for people having sex to sell to porn companies.

There's that one treasure to be found that I believe may be in Arizona if I remember correctly. A guy brought a treasure chest filled with diamonds, rubies and all sorts of gems, wrote a book; I believe it was called the treasure. People have been trying to find it since the 90's I believe. It was featured on destination unknown
