Apparently, the FAA denies tracking UFOs at all, yet there is a database of drones, including some unidentified objects which they maintain. (see the article below at the Black Vault)
You can go on city-data and find lists of all aircraft registered city by city.
I had no idea that industrial drones used for many reasons had to have a FAA registration like an airplane. Many of these are being used in audio-visual displays, real estate and geographical studies. Some are for watching fields in agricultural.
It's pretty interesting that drone photography is a new business that most people are unaware of.

Drones have been TOUGH on the helicopter companies too! Lots of these things in the past, would have required a helicopter...but not anymore.

Yes, they dont want everyone (particularly the Russians and Chinese) sending drones up and photographing things we should not know about. Actually, I really doubt that small drones are going to trigger some kind of radar which is going to send out the law enforcement, so they are probably only covering their a$$ so they can prosecute if they find someone who is doing it.
I do agree that drones can cause an accident in the sky with other aircaft but we are going to have to come to terms with this sometime when the new technology gets to be used and everyone starts to shoot around the skies in their new 'flying cars'. I mean, this technology has got to come out of sci-fi and into real life sometime soon. Currently they are keeping a lid on it all pretty well.
