I was wondering why a god would want to be worshiped. What if God devours the souls of believers when they die? They go into the light, and <slurp>. It would also explain religious wars. Masses of dead believers would be a feast.

Most profound... Why do you think so?

Wouldn't 'mistakes' be a better way for god to learn than repetitious chants? Of course it is always better to learn from the mistakes of others and not your own. Even to an omnipotent being there would still be unexpected results; they would be its opportunity to learn and grow. If it was stagnant and content to sit back and be praised for the rest of eternity; is it not possible that eventually it could be replaced by a god that was willing to learn?

Seems more of a question for the Religion forms, but lots of theologians and philosophers have addressed this over the centuries.

The best answer I have found: Worshiping God isn't good for God. God lacks nothing. But worshiping God is good for us.

Some gods do; some don't. Based on literature, we may assume that Jehovah eats the souls of Jews. Jews generally do not believe that their souls are immortal.

He may eat Christians as well.

And Muslims. Religion may be a way to get souls to hold still while they are devoured. There's nothing like a religious war to crank up the fervor of believers.

"Right this way for Judgment. Oops, you fail. Step into the pit, please."

Other than PR, there is no apparent difference between a god and a demon.

I’m kind of agreeing. This is far better for the religion forum.
