HOT BEER AND AN AX

Lewis Heusler, 51 years old, was taken to the City Hospital yesterday for observation. Wednesday night Heusler rented a room at 1500 Franklin avenue.
Yesterday morning the other boarders heard a terrible racket in his room, and upon investigation, found him stripped of all clothing, pacing the floor and swinging an ax viciously.

He had destroyed all the furniture in the room except the stove, in which he had made a fire and was boiling a pot of beer with the purpose, he declared, of converting it into wine. A police officer was called and Heusler was taken to the hospital for observation.

GETS VENOM FROM BEES

The bees were in a glass bottle, buzzing fiercely. They rested on a very fine wire netting and below the netting was a transparent fluid.
Every so often the chemist stirred them up with a toothpick and their wrath doubled. "I am extracting their venom," said the man.
"I am making them sting everything in sight. The venom drops down through the netting into that liquid, which is alcohol, and I make medicine of it."

"These angry bees, in a word, are assisting me to make medicine. Bees' venom--"apis," as it is called, is a very good remedy for gout, rheumatism, cancer and a dozen other ailments."

GOING TO BOTTOM OF MYSTERY

Laporte, Ind.--- After sitting all day, the county commissioners announced Thursday night that they would stand by Sheriff Smutzer in his determination to probe the Belle Gunness mystery to the bottom and would furnish such money as be necessary to complete the investigation of all clues that may come up.

The chief of police is in receipt of a letter from Antwerp, Belgium, written by N. Goranson, who makes inquiry regarding his brother, Lars Goranson. The writer said that when his brother left him in Sweden a number of years ago he had $50,000.

About two years ago he lost track of his brother in St. Louis, and he now fears he may have been one of Mrs. Gunness' victims.

WANTED HIS SANITY TESTED

Louis Hundemack, 64 years old, living at 2317 Sullivan avenue, a coffin maker, at 10 o'clock yesterday morning applied for admission to the City Hospital.
He said his neighbors told him he was insane and the small boys of the neighborhood were constantly playing jokes on him, and he was desirous of learning if his mind was deranged.

He was sent to the City Dispensary, where he obtained a permit, and later was placed in the observation ward at the City Hospital.
"I came to St. Louis from Germany seven years ago," Hundemack said, "and since then everyone I have met told me I was insane. I have consulted several physicians, who told me the same thing, and the boys of the neighborhood call after me and play jokes on me. I want to know if I am insane."

Doctor Nietert, superintendent of the City Hospital, after examining Hundemack, said it was his impression that he was mentally deranged, but the constant worry because of the jokes of the neighborhood boys and what other physicians have told him may have helped to unsettle his mind.
