CORPSE SHIPPED AS BOOKS

Sioux City, IA. Jan. 31.--- A corpse in a box marked "books" was found in the United States Express office this afternoon.
The body was received on January 19 from Baltimore, Md., addressed to J.S. Bradford, but the express officials failed to find him.
The dead man appears to be a German, 55 to 60 years old. The only garment on the body was a shirt. There was a frightful wound on the back of the head, apparently made by a blow from a blunt instrument. The dead man is bald, but wore a stubby beard and mustache. The face is so distorted that recognition will be difficult.

It's not surprising that cemetery is haunted.

WAS HIS TIME TO DIE

A very strange incident occurred at Vauyert, France, during a recent storm. A man 80 years old was caught up by a whirlwind and hurled over a hayrick.
He came down safely on the other side, but as his friends were congratulating him on his escape the old man was killed by lightning, which spared the other men who were standing around him.

BURGLAR LOOTS BOY'S BANK BUT LEAVES HIM A GIFT

https://www.newspapers.com/clip/9543...s-easter-eggs/

AN OLD TALE

One night in the 1870s, Frank and Jesse James were riding in a bad thunderstorm after one of their robberies when they spotted an isolated house in the woods and decided to rest their horses and knock on the door.
An old woman let them in and hung their jackets by the fireplace and proceeded to dish out some warm stew for them.
Frank said to Jesse, " She kind of reminds me of mama."

While they were eating, she told them she was a widow and the bank was going to foreclose on her house in the morning because she didn't have $ 800 to pay them.
Frank thanked her for the stew and the old woman insisted they stay the night until the storm was over.

When she woke up she noticed the boys had gone and left a note with money on the table. The note read, " We left you $ 800 to pay the banker, make sure you get a receipt."
When the banker showed up in the morning she paid him and got her receipt.

The banker then left and was on his way back to town when he was suddenly ambushed by the James boys and robbed of $ 800.
