RAT GNAWED HIS BIG TOE

James Goddard, of No. 1439 Washington avenue, is suffering from a rat bite and fears he has blood-poisoning.
An ambulance was called to his home last night to remove him to the City Hospital, but he refused to go.

While Goddard was asleep a few nights ago the rat crept into the bed and began gnawing on Goddard's big toe. Goddard thought it was a fly or some other insect and made no attempt at investigation, just simply moved his foot occasionally.

Finally he felt a more stinging bite, and quickly running his hand to his foot found a big rat nestled in bed at his feet. The rodent had nibbled at his toe until blood flowed.
The rat escaped and Goddard's foot is swelling.

The Andrew County Republican (Savannah, Mo) Nov. 16, 1876

A married couple were attacked in the street by a dog. The wife screamed and tried to run, but her husband caught her by the shoulders and held her firmly between the infuriated beast and himself, while he whispered in a hoarse voice; " Don't you dare let go of me, darling. I'll stand by you even if he does bite."
Never losing his presence of mind for an instant, the daring man baffled every effort of the fierce brute to get him. The owner of the dog interfered, and, as the couple walked away, the husband was heard to say to his wife; " If you had only let the dog bite you, I might have sued the city for $10,000 in damages. But you never did have much sense."

Some mischievous boys in Macon, Georgia, were coaxing goats on to a bridge and making them jump into the river.
They were getting along very nicely when the old patriarch of the flock suddenly " turned the tables " on them, by butting them off into the drink, a trick that was not on the boys' program.

STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN

Courtley obtained the only berth on a Pullman car. Later, an old lady boarded the train and began complaining that she would have to sit up all night.
The gentleman, true to the name, gave the lady his space, and during the night he wired his wife as follows; " Will Be Home Tomorrow; Just Gave Berth To An Old Lady."

Argentina

On May 12, 1962, three truckers, Valentino Tomassini, Gauro Tomassini and Humberto Zenobi were travelling on Route 35 from Bahia Blanca to Jacinto Arauz. At 4:10 they saw an object on the ground in a field next to the road at a distance of 100 meters.
The object looked like a railroad car and was illuminated.

As their truck came close to it, the object rose up and crossed the road at a height of 4 meters; its lights went out and from the lower part of it came a reddish flame. At last, the object divided into 2 parts, which flew off in different directions.

WHITE CAT CROSSED HIS PATH

John Devoe, a farmer living two miles west of Ballwin, had a most remarkable experience Saturday night.
He says that he was thrown from his spring wagon while returning from Des Peres; that as the result of his fall he became unconscious, and that Sunday morning he found himself missing his money and a silver watch, and ten miles south of Valley Park, more than 15 miles from his home.

It seems that on Saturday afternoon he had been visiting friends in Des Peres. It was already dark when he started west. After stopping a while, he resumed his journey homeward. When opposite the junction of the Denny and Manchester roads, he says a white animal, resembling a cat, crossed the highway directly under the horse's nose. The horse shied to the right and Devoe was thrown out of the wagon, landing on his head and shoulders.

What his horse did, how he himself got up, or if there was anyone else near the scene, Devoe cannot say.
He remembers nothing except that he found himself the next morning 10 miles south of Valley Park on the Jefferson County line. His pocketbook was empty and he stated he had $20 in it and his silver timepiece was gone.
