SEEK " MAN IN BLACK " AT HOME FOR NURSES

The police were called to the nurses' home on Clinton street last night about 6 o'clock by Miss Jessie Horn, superintendent of the city hospital, following a report of a man in black stalking about the third floor. One of the nurses told Miss Horn of seeing the man so the police were called to look for him.

Careful investigation of every nook and corner in the building showed that no man of mystery was lurking about. No valuables were discovered missing so the man who was there if there was one, must have disappeared before the arrival of the police.
Miss Horn stated this morning that she did not believe there was a man in the home and thinks the scare was due to imagination.

TOWED TO SEA BY A FISH

W.L. Kennedy went fishing near Wilmington, N.C., the other day. He threw his line, a very large, strong cord, overboard and made the end fast to the painter of the boat.
In a few moments the boat gave a sudden lurch and immediately shot forward for the open sea as though propelled by steam.
The seas were rolling high, Kennedy says, and expected every minute to be his last. Kennedy soon realized that he was being towed by some big fish, and despite his tireless efforts to keep the boat straight and pull against his rushing tug, the chopping seas soon swamped his little craft.
For more than 3 hours Kennedy and his water logged boat were towed to sea and would have been lost had not the line chafed and parted near the fish's mouth.
The boat's painter was a chain fastened with staples under the cap of the boat, and the fishing line was made fast to the end of the chain, so that Kennedy was prevented from using his knife to sever the twine.
He thinks it was a shark that gave him his free ride.

He got there just in time to save his house from destruction by fire, which was well under way.

FATHER OF 27 IS SCARED

Charles Black, who was paroled on June 5, knocked for admission at the door of the county prison here yesterday.
" I want to come back with you." Black told Warden Fellman. " I fear that if I'm away I will get into trouble again; please let me in."
The warden accommodated the man and then laid the matter before the court, and Judge Miller, who had paroled him to the county farm, recommitted him. Black says he has 27 living children.

Ain't it curious, you may meet with 20 men in a day who stutter, and did you ever hear of a woman who had an impediment in her speech ?
Well, well, do let the poor women alone. It is the only weapon they know how to use properly.
